Some really cool stuff has come out of the [livejournal.com profile] ronon_love challenge. I haven't read through all of them, but of the ones I did, these stood out:

Missing Breath by [livejournal.com profile] perspi. Teyla helped make a home for Ronon, once. In the face of loss and grief, Ronon returns the favor.
LOVED this. The team as a team, excellent Ronon-Teyla friendship, an absolutely stunning Teyla and most of all, a truly interesting plot. Go read and leave gushing comments please.

More Gamblers Than Avarice by [livejournal.com profile] tielan, written for me! Lovely piece of Ronon-Teyla friendship, set after (and around) events in "The Return" part 1. A really nice exploration of both Ronon and Teyla and life in the Pegasus galaxy. Very nice atmosphere as well.

Dum Vita est by [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine. The opposite of running is not stillness. It's falling.
Ronon in Atlantis, right after he gets there. Amazing, heartbreaking, and very very real.

The Long Winter by [livejournal.com profile] pentapus. A very cool idea and interesting shading. The wolves are excellent.

Tagged by [livejournal.com profile] big_pink and [livejournal.com profile] smilla02, 20 questions and your answers with options to change any questions you don't like.

Because I like talking about myself, all that and some poetry too! )

Not tagging anyone but if you want to do this, please let me know because I would definitely like to read them :)

P.S: I just put on dark blue nailpolish on my toe-nails. I feel like I need to match up to it with my art, but sadly, all I can think of is cherry blossoms. Not particularly fitting.

P.P.S: Almost forgot, Team Teyla AU challenge. Team fic/art challenge with a definite emphasis on all of them. The name, IMO, is slightly misleading, but I guess it's a way to ensure it's all team all the time and not J/R with the other two just there happenstance. Info post here

In case you haven't yet reached saturation level with the posts pimping out this comm, here's one more:

If you're an artist, go join, if you just love fanart, go watch!

A somewhat belated but very heartfelt thank you to all of you who left me comments on the testimonials meme. It's very kind of all of you to humor me :)

MY COMPUTER IS BACK!!!!!!!! *hugs to chest and vows to never let go again*
Also, Apple paid for all of it, yes! I now have a new display, new super drive and new logic board along with all the data that was already on my computer since they didn't touch the hard drive, meaning no reloading every single damn thing again.

Oh drawing with a tablet on my computer, how I have missed you! Remaining parts of the SPN meme, the Ronon love picture and gazillion other things that I need to get done, here I come!

A few SPN recs:
Accidental Documentaries by [livejournal.com profile] tassosss
This was a complete and utter delight to come across. Long, plotty gen fic with interesting, three dimensional original characters, an excellent OC point-of-view, pre-series high-school age Dean and Sam (little more Dean than Sam, but justice done to both), an intriguing structure with kind of a movie feel to it and things happening that are sometimes upsetting and sometimes funny and very realistic all through. A mystery and its solving, but the main draw to me remained the character interactions. I feel like I want more stories about the main OFC in it. There is some disturbing stuff about the case itself (not too explicitly told though), so make sure to read the notes.

Their Type by [livejournal.com profile] miss_aprosexia
A short piece, with a OC point of view and a twist at the end I wasn't expecting. Very heart-warming.
While you're there, check out her Henricksen story Go Down Swinging Spoilers for 3x12.

This road is wrapped around me, and I wear it like a chain by [livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing.
Spoilers till 3x12. Mind-blowing. I can't spoil any of it, just go with the summary she wrote for it: There will never be salvation for you

And while I'm here and missing my poor baby who's being all fixed up at the mac store (I am full of ANGST dammit!), leave me a testimonial here please, at [livejournal.com profile] keepaofthecheez's Testimonial meme. The more cracky, the better :D And let me know if you have a thread yourself!

More art when my baby gets back (baby gets back hahahaha...never mind)

I'm baaack!

Hello! I'm back! Did you miss me? (Not talking to those of you who didn't even realize I was gone, humph) Things what I wish to now share:

• I wish I could transplant my parents and friends over to the US so I could live here while simultaneously not having to miss them. Why must you all be so stubborn and have your own lives dammit?
• Hot new actor I saw on tv in India looked familiar because he was the cute young child star in an older movie I had watched many many times. Was saved from feeling like a pervert by the discovery that he was born in the same year I was.
• Indian ads are, for the most part, really rather well done.
• Hindi movies, when they are not brilliant and touching and amazing, can be really really embarrassing. Bengali movies that copy bad Hindi movies are, not surprisingly, even more cringeworthy.
• Will do a gushing movie review thing later, but for now, know that you should watch Chak De!. Right now.
• I really missed my tablet *squishes poor neglected tablet*
• I need to find someone who will cook me fish every day. Any takers?
• Sleep is GOOD.

Things what people need to do:

• Read Eat your Heart Out, Peggy Fleming by [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine and leave gushing feedback (which I did not. Unless correcting a typo counts? Erm). Because there's adventure and injuries and crises and lots of other excellent plurals. And apart from the usual suspects, a wonderful Cadman.
• Please stop using girly, girlish or girl over and over in spn/rpf stories to describe actions that you think are beneath them. At least it's canonical when it's actually Dean's voice doing it, but when it's authorial interjection, it's just annoying. Seriously, it's like it's in the invisible fannish rulebook for stories in that fandom the way almost every story has to mention it at least once.
• Forgive me for not replying to all of the utterly lovely feedback I got for the last few things I did.
• Recommend SPN and SGA stories that were posted in the last few weeks, and that you think I should read before I do absolutely anything else.

PSA: If someone pops up on your IM program and asks you to click on any link to a domain on nimp.org, DO NOT CLICK, for example, it could be username.on.nimp.org Even if it says that your friends only posts are being stolen and your name is right there in front of the url. nimp.org will wreak merry havoc on your computer. It's a good thing I don't click on links from random jackasses.
ETA: Apparently mainly problematic on IE, but bad on Firefox too since it can freeze up with big images of very very NSFW stuff

Things you should probably do:

• Go look at, comment on and snag one of these unbelievably adorable Teyla pairing icons by [livejournal.com profile] pentapus. I swear, I look at them and I start cooing at the page. And to think there was a time when I didn't really like chibi styles.

• Take a look at the [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon comm, a celebration of female characters in fandom (any fandom) from 1st feb to the 14th. You can write, draw, rec, vid, discuss, meta, fanmix, whatever you want as long as it celebrates a female character in some way.
I have an idea already, Aeryn and Zoe: Space Pirates of Doooom, Awesome, Y/Y?

• Make sandwiches with a filling of mashed potatoes, onions and bits of kielbasa. YUMMY

• Reply to all the lovely comments from almost a month past. Oh wait, that's just me :/

Things you probably shouldn't do:

• Watch Bulletproof Monk Oh my god, the ridiculousness! The cheesetasticness! The pretension! The really bad special effects! The faux mystical power ninja type monks! The villainous White People with bad haircuts! The diamond in the rough street smart unknowing hero kid with sekrit heart of gold and mind of steel! The mysterious and alluring and did I mention mysterious woman who is cool and nochalant except when faced with hero! The ending with two people walking around in bondage type leather clothing smack in the middle of a normal street! Shlokas from the Gita being sung in the background to show their awesome spirituality!!!! *cries at the badness* Oh Chow Yun Fat, why must you disappoint me so?

• Drink decaffeinated green tea with lemongrass flavoring. Urgh.

• Go out without a coat brrrrrr
ileliberte: (sun)
I can haz bulletpoints:
• Went to New York with my sister and my brother-in-law and left the back window open on his car, which was parked near a library in New Jersey. Fretted intermittently through most of the trip but thankfully came back to intact, albeit rather frosty car.
• Wondered how New Yorkers resist throwing screaming fits at the hordes of gawking tourists that descend there at this time of year. To lessen my touristyness I did not take my camera and had my sister look up all the maps. :D
• Lots and lots of lovely comments that I have yet to answer because, um, a mix of no time and incompetent time management? But ♥ for all the lovely things said, one of my favorite things when on the computer is to check my lj email and be ecstatic when I see a comment notification.
• Feeling vaguely punch drunk from very little sleep. I think I suffer from inertia of awakeness, even when my eyelids are sort of drooping, I still can't get up off the chair.
• I don't really have a lot to say, but itemizing my lj post seems funny enough for me to go on anyway. I am easily amused.
• Oh! Ok, fic recommendation Disasters, Narrowly Averted by [livejournal.com profile] mahoni. Adorable Rodney/Katie interaction and my favoritest part, Teyla getting frustrated by a Rubik's cube. *melts*
• HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
ileliberte: (Teyla smile)
I hope everyone who celebrates it had a very merry Christmas and those who don't, got a restful holiday anyway :)

Some thanks and a bit of preening:
Thank you to everyone who voted for me in the Mckay/Sheppard awards, Respite got me a very flattering runner up position in the digital art category. (I feel like I should give a nice speech here, but the Indian cricket team is collapsing like a house of cards in Australia and the joy of the result above only extends to making me not mourn much about that.)

Things more somber:
Just finished watching Dances with Wolves. Apart from some niggles (including some slightly superficial ones of Costner shaving off his moustache and looking even more incongruous and McDonell having 80s hair), I rather liked it. However, everyone knows how that story ends. I watched Aimee and Jaguar last week. Recommend it highly. It's a love story -and more- set in Nazi Germany, between two female protagonists and Maria Schrader (Jaguar) is brilliant. However, given what I just said about the setting, we all know how that big picture ends as well. Now I just need to watch 1947 Earth to round up a triumvirate of human beings being somewhat excellent in the middle of being immensely, unbelievably horrific.

Some recs:
Fic - A very happy non-denominational voluntary non-working day by [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine Go!
Art - An interesting manip for the sga art santa challenge. Two somewhat glaring mistakes, with the crescent moon apparently turning transparent and a part of the balcony missing, but other than that, charming mood with consistent coloring, creative scenery and a case where blurring works.
And this beautiful beautiful one with Heightmeyer, Mucha style. Art styles are pretty hard to hide, and I'm quite certain I know who did this one and I am not at all surprised at the gorgeousness.

Things that you're probably following this journal for:
If you're still reading, feel free to drop an art prompt, SGA or SPN or maybe even a crossover. Gen preferred (for SPN, gen only please), rating as low as possible. As always, disclaimer being that it is a selfish attempt to pick other people's brains without making any guarantees about completion of said prompts.
ileliberte: (Default)
So if I were to, hypothetically, make a mission report through photographic evidence etc, what might the mission involve? No aliens made them do it scenarios please, and maybe less of people growing wings or turning into the other gender, but more coming across something interesting/wild/wacky/really freaking weird. No promises about actual completion, but am thinking about it and some suggestions might be inspiring.

I think I am suffering from [livejournal.com profile] astridv envy, her original alien creatures are awesome and I wish I could think these up. Go check out this awesome picture for the flashfic 'ways to die' challenge (fear not, only multiple MALPs die). All the scenarios are interesting and her original wacky beasts are wonderful, like in this (non-SGA but well worth seeing) post.
ileliberte: (Default)
I am currently lusting after silver sanding sugar, edible gold glitter and ivory edible pearls. Someone stop me from thinking about food!

And while you're thinking up ways of doing that, go check out this SGA artwork by [livejournal.com profile] leyna55. It's for the [livejournal.com profile] undermistletoe harlequin week prompt, The Desert Bride of Al Zayed. As you may be able to gather from the prompt, it is somewhat crack-y, and kind of as hilarious as it is well done. The lighting, the faces, and most of all the coloring of all the fabric is gorgeous. One bare male chest front and center and chains, so if at work, be careful, but given all that, it is actually gen and a PG rating. Check out her other work while you're there too, she has a very nice style.

Die Verwandlung, a ficlet set during Conversion by [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine. Her Lorne and Sheppard interaction is, as always, an absolute joy. Heavy but not melodramatic. (The title is also quite apt as I discovered after I googled it :D)
ileliberte: (Teyla smile)
Fic rec: King Winchester by [livejournal.com profile] azalea. It was written in January, but I just came across it today and oh my god, it is hilarious. The Winchesters, Shakespeare style, when Sam leaves. So well done, go read it!

Art rec: Ok, I never really followed Sailor Moon other than the music videos my friend kept sending over, but this picture by [livejournal.com profile] mutecornett is really very pretty. I love the mix of cartoonish and realistic, the expressions are convincing and the colors are beautiful. Even if you have no idea what Sailor Moon is, it's still a pretty picture. Click :)

I have changed my journal layout again, by which of course I mean the header and random colors on the page. It's snow to match winter. Sadly textless since I couldn't find anything to put in there.

Next up, SGA meets SPN. Whenever I finish the damn thing.

Random musings on a Friday afternoon:
Dear author, if you write "cackling electricity" when trying to convey the dynamic presence of your character, I think it conveys a rather less imposing image than you were possibly aiming for. Leaving aside, for the moment, the tired cliche that term is even when spelled properly, that missing r makes a world of difference.

Dear self, the summary is rather frightening, why must you be lured into obviously bad stories just because there is a promise of some angst with a happy ending? Sucker.

Dear flist, [livejournal.com profile] ltlj has updated her space pirates story, please go and read because it is great. And has Zoe in it. Also all the usual suspects plus Carter. Is there any doubt why I love her so much? ([livejournal.com profile] ltlj that is, not Carter (though I love her too.))

Dear flist, I address you once again to ask for icon prompts. I will be smart this time and only ask for four. SPN/SGA, gennishly inclined, my favorite characters preferred, you know the drill. Icons will be shareable once I finish them, so please keep that in mind too.

Instant rec, go see this amazing Teyla picture by [livejournal.com profile] steammmpunk. No, seriously, go see it. Now.

Things that I have thought of today:
Dijon mustard does wonders for a ham and lettuce sandwich, but if too ambitiously applied, can remind the eater of that time when she first ate sushi and shoved a whole bunch of the interesting looking green paste in her mouth. OUCH.

It is sad that fan art cannot be surreptitiously done in between making webpages at work.

Coming to work early means that I can go home early. Really.

I kind of want to write fic but only having random snippets of dialogue floating in my head without any plot or unifying structure does not seem to be enough. Which is sad.

[livejournal.com profile] chowburger has a very interesting variety of styles in his/her art (art comm is [livejournal.com profile] drawburger). Not all of them work for me, but some of them really do and the creativity is always admirable. Not a very prolific poster from what I can see and very multi-fandom, but good art is good art no matter who's in it (hee, Dr. Who features prominently). I especially adore this post.

Everyone's kinda quiet today. You, dear reader, can be the one to change that. My aim id is ileliberte.

Absolute wholehearted rec for [livejournal.com profile] mahoni's fic(let) with a really utterly kickass dangerous Teyla, with bonus team goodness with cute kind of out of it Sheppard, grumpy but sweet Rodney and lots of G rated friendly team touches just the way I like it, mmmmm. Go read and tell her how awesome she is here!
p.s: written all for meeeee
ileliberte: (lava lamp)
OMG whole morning without internet, don't ever leave me again intertubes *clutches* Yes, I'm slightly pathetic, what of it?

So this is possibly a pointless rec since everyone in SGA watching my journal is most definitely watching hers as well, but here goes anyway, John and Teyla in Formal Wear. The hotness of Teyla here is immeasurable, really. John looks good, if slightly...long, but oh god, Teyla ♥ The folds of the dress, the fall of the skirt, her pose, her shoes! So very very hot. And ok, it says I betaed it but that was in a rather nascent stage so all the changes were a lovely surprise. Mmmm.

I have an awesome idea for the last Teyla prompt for the [livejournal.com profile] choc_fic challenge (which is still open for participation), except that it's the one due last and I have way more to do before that. Why must my brain not work in a sequential manner?

So that this whole thing is not just me blathering on, here, have a link to this very creepy but oh so true video called Facebook Stalker set to the tune of Enrique Iglesias' Hero.

I don't usually do this, and probably the recommending will be sporadic at best, but here goes:

John and Rodney do the Amazon, art by [livejournal.com profile] clayeer (G rated, worksafe)
Excellent lighting and composition, fun subject matter and a very cool style of coloring.

Check out her other pieces posted to the same comm as well, they're linked on the master post. This one's my favorite of the three, but the style throughout is one I admire a lot, flowing, un-fussy with a very nice sense of composition and excellent use of color and shading, and good resemblances without getting too persnickety about any of it. Don't forget to leave feedback if you like it :)
