Title: Art for Deep Breaths
Rating: G

I picked [livejournal.com profile] apocalypsos' delightfully intriguing AU Deep breaths (Mary/Ellen, R) where Mary's raising the boys, Ellen's a mysterious stranger and things aren't quite what they seem.
The author's summary:
AU. Azazel offered Mary a choice, and she did what she had to do. She looked him in the eyes when he offered to bring her dead boyfriend back to life, and she told him no. Fifteen years later, she's divorced, a single mom, and living in the sort of quaint small town she used to dream about raising her family in. Enter a strange woman with a mute little girl, a woman who cracks through Mary's barely stable facade of a normal life. Featuring five tequila shots, four threatening angels, three fatherless children (maybe), two kickass women, and a platter of peanut butter brownies.

It's an amazing story with a really unique premise so go read it here (AO3 link)! [Or the master post on lj if you want to leave feedback there]

My trusty five year old Wacom Intuos2 is still doing fine function-wise, but the contact sheet's pretty scuffed up given how much use it's seen, and Wacom, of course, does not seem to offer replacement sheets for a model this old. The Intuos4 has almost double the pressure sensitivity, but some awful reviews when it comes to longevity of the pen nibs/contact sheet, with Wacom actually suggesting taping a piece of plastic over the sheet to increase nib life!!

So, artists/graphic tablet users on my flist (or passing by), any words of wisdom on tablet choice i.e. get an Intuos3 or see if the Intuos4's actually better by now? Or maybe you have some killer substitute for Intuos2 cover sheets? What have your experiences been?

• It has been exactly a month since I last posted any fanart D: More Star Trek's coming up soon though, Thursday, in fact (for [livejournal.com profile] trekreversebang) and then my second one later in the month, and I'm doing art for two stories for SPN Bigbang, drafts due June 1, and I am finishing up one art commission and starting up another huge one, not to mention the various fanart ideas flitting through my head all the time and aaaahhhhhhhh!!!! *runs around like a madwoman*

• Being a mod for a challenge can be incredibly fun and exciting, but sometimes... *points up to the running around like a madwoman sentiment*

• NPH was on Glee tonight. It's very hard for me to be objective about anything he does ♥♥ (ok, he still can't make me watch Beastly or the Smurfs movie, but other than that...) This was the first episode I watched of Glee and well, the show's not my thing, but Lea Michele does have a really beautiful voice.

• Anyone around here watching korean dramas? Specifically "Life is Beautiful"?

• Here's a video of Ishq hua, a song I really like (from a hindi movie called Aaja Nachle), featuring an actress I have a huge crush on, and an actor who isn't hard on the eyes either. It has (mostly accurate) subtitles too, and it's kind of sweet and funny:

• And to wrap up the post, here's some stunning art by [livejournal.com profile] nami86, Stained Glass Windows. All sorts of characters from Supernatural painted like they were on stained glass windows. Very large image, and absolutely worth waiting for the aeons it takes to completely load at full size.

[livejournal.com profile] trekreversebang started posting today. There's a tiny problem in that one of the authors has quit all communication and we're assuming that there will be no fic from her since her posting date is supposed to be the 14th of May and from what the artist just mentioned, the author hasn't gotten in touch with her in a month. [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine was wonderful enough to take on the last dropout, anyone else on my flist interested in writing a 6K fic based on really cute Amanda Grayson meets Winona Kirk art? Artist prefers gen, but it could be femslash too. You'll have till June 18th to finish it and the art really is cute, I would hate to have it go without a story. Any takers?

ETA: Mission accomplished \o/ But if anyone's still interested in staying in reserve as a pinch-hitter, just in case someone else drops out, please do leave a comment here :)

[livejournal.com profile] trekreversebang posting will start on Wednesday (watch the comm!). Must finish my own art. I'm very excited, hopefully there won't be any more dropouts, though thankfully pinch-hitters are in place. *crossing fingers for everything going smoothly*

[livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang fics have been claimed. One gen, one femslash. Both sound really intriguing, I'm looking forward so much to reading them!

So A.R.Rahman just came out with a new soundtrack for the movie Raavan. The whole soundtrack is amazing, here's one of my favorites from there:

Thok De Killi Striking rhythm, powerful beats and a very catchy tune. Since I can't do the lyrics justice in translation, the theme can be approximated to "viva la revolución".

• The Navy with "I'm on a Boat" Video under cut )
• And the Air Force Academy with "Tik Tok" Video under cut )

I'm dying of laughter. XD

Also, Supernatural and Mentalist last night were very entertaining. That mini music video midway through SPN=shiver inducing ♥

Have a potentially awesome freelance illustration opportunity. Potentially, because the details are not yet nailed down and...ok, you know that moment between knowing your grades are up for the semester and the time it takes for the browser to load your transcript, when you have no idea about how you did on the final for that damn comp sci class you floundered through all those months and don't know whether you're looking at a failing grade in your very first semester or whether you actually managed to get through it? ...so it's not a perfect metaphor, but the nerves are sort of like that. *bites nails*
(Don't judge me. That comp sci class was freaking hard. I have not felt that stupid for such an extended period of time since the first few months of beginning calculus :( And no, I didn't fail. But only barely.)

Because it's been a while, here's a poll:

In conclusion, happy National Jelly Bean Day everybody!

So, I did a prompts post and [livejournal.com profile] allisnow suggested the SGA team being touristy in San Fransisco, with the team (specifically, Ronon) having fun on the downhill trolley.
This is for [livejournal.com profile] allisnow and [livejournal.com profile] marthawells :)

Posting schedule finally drawn up for [livejournal.com profile] trekreversebang. Everything's going smoothly till now, am crossing fingers for everything else going totally smoothly as well *crosses fingers*

WIPs (or should that be WsIP?):
• SGA getting their thrills on a San Fransisco downhill trolley ride!
• Vulcan kids weirding out Spock with their unwavering attention :D

Here's some music:
Teri Ore from the movie Singgh is King (movie not recommended).
The song is beautiful and the singer, Shreya Ghosal has a gorgeous voice.
Download the song here

Life is Crazy from the movie Wake Up Sid (movie recommended).
The song title's in English, but that's pretty much the only English line and forms part of the refrain. It's a fun song, foot-tapping catchy but not loud. And the singers are good.
Download the song here

As usual, songs are on my server, so right-click save. And if you can, let me know what you think :)

In conclusion, here's a blog dedicated to pictures of things following angry cats.

It's been a while since the last one, so, give me some fanart prompts!

Fandoms: SPN (gen/non-wincest), Star Trek (gen or OT3 with Spock/Uhura/Kirk), SGA (gen), White Collar (OT3).

Stuff to know:
• Nothing should be over PG-13 (if that).
• I might not, unfortunately, be able to get to all of your prompts (out of time/out of ideas) but I still really appreciate you indulging me.
• And both a note and an explanation of the point above, will take me some time to finish because I haven't met a picture yet that I couldn't waste hours over.

Artist rec:
[livejournal.com profile] petit_madame is doing some amazing artwork in SPN. She has a wonderful painterly style, and some extremely clever ideas for her settings and compositions. The latest one, Bad Omen (G, safe for work) has beautiful lighting and very interesting perspective. Plus, I'm always a sucker for people rendering glass well. She also goes into details about her process (complete with screenshots), which I find fascinating from any good artist. Take a look at her work and I'm sure you'll feel the urge to leave a few gushing comments :)

Speaking of art recs, anyone have recs that you want to share? No explicit wincest please, but anything else goes. It's always good to find more pretty art to enjoy.

Thank you anonymous person for the sugary bunny in my profile! I wish you many sweet treats too!

Totally not new movies that I'm feeling a resurgence of love for:
Saving Face How sweet was this movie and how awesome was the ending? I rented it way back when, and still re-watch it from time to time. ♥

Undercover Brother I love this movie. It's hilarious and kind of smart in its own way. ♥ (and no, it's not just because NPH is in it, although that definitely doesn't hurt :P)

A game that I have been losing hours of my life on:
Robot Unicorn Attack. Just as wonderful as that name sounds. You're welcome. Feel free to send all curses [livejournal.com profile] muccamukk's way when you forget about everything else and keep hearing that stupid song in your head, it's all her fault.

And in conclusion, somewhat thematically related to Saving Face, here's a skit from the British comedy show Goodness Gracious Me:

So, as usual, this was not what I meant to draw when I sat down to draw. But I'd just read this awesome SPN story by [livejournal.com profile] mimblexwimble, My Life's Come Off its Tracks (pre-series Weechesters and John AU), and...

[livejournal.com profile] trekreversebang match-ups are done, match emails have been sent, reveal to authors and artists has been posted, pinch-hitters post and pointing to betas post and cheerleaders(?) posts need to be made and *falls down in an exhausted heap* How do people ever do this without amazing co-mods?

I have one SGA and one SPN picture in the works. I started them first but then my brain wandered off again and I found myself drawing Trek Reboot genderswap. [livejournal.com profile] oxboxer's pictures were so incredibly cool, I couldn't get the idea out of my head. Not to mention, cocky, smirky female!Kirk hitting on stoic female!Spock and bemused but kind of intrigued male!Uhura makes for a delicious mental image...ok, somebody write it? PLEASE?

Recs:
Star Trek: Genderswap art by [livejournal.com profile] oxboxer: the ladies and the gents (G)
All the changes are really fun, but I LOVE Sulu, Bones and Uhura. the style is playful and totally adorable.

SPN: Supernatural themed Monopoly game by [livejournal.com profile] reveria. As I commented over there, not only is it visually totally appealing, it also looks like it would be fun to play. I can't imagine the number of hours all of it must have taken. Amazing work.

Sherlock Holmes (2009 movie): Keep Your Eyes on her Horizon (PG)
New Irene/Mary, Holmes/Watson fic from [livejournal.com profile] paperclipbitch. This one's a WIP, but I enjoyed her other fic and I'm definitely looking forward to more for this one.

Random crap:
Surprise!Matt Bomer on oldish teen romance novel cover:

I dreamt that I was out stealing umbrellas from people. My brain is weird.

My own WIP: The crew of the Enterprise goes to a world that looks uncannily like Bhutan! (h/t to [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine for the inspiration :D)

[livejournal.com profile] trekreversebang claims post goes up tomorrow! So excited! (Details will be up on the comm later today)
