• Still no fanart sorry :( Lots of ideas, no time at all. Spirit is willing, flesh, totally weak. I need a time-turner...

Rizzoli & Isles: Anyone watched the pilot? Opinions? It's somewhat inexplicable because I've only watched her in a handful of NCIS episodes and one sort of entertaining movie, but I seem to have a lot of fondness for Sasha Alexander, and the premise looked interesting.

• Really sweet behind the scenes picture of Jensen Ackles and Alona Tal during season 2 of SPN. Also, his face looks nice, but I'm in love with Jared's hair in this picture. Don't judge me.

• This is a poll that I'm actually curious about the answers to:

[Poll #1591811]

• In conclusion, World War II as a badly written, cliched TV show (h/t to [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine for the link)

Bad graphics are certainly a point against fic, but for me not a dealbreaker. Also frequently people who post bad banners forget to give them size attributes, and because I block large and unknown size images on my flist to avoid breaking the layout, I often don't see the graphic when I'm deciding to click or not. However if they make such an image the only link they've lost me, because the placeholder on LJ then isn't clickable.

Ah yeah, I do the same (blocking large images on flist) and have the same problem as you when the images are the only links. Bad idea.

I find story header graphics -- good or bad -- spectacularly annoying. Somehow they slot into the same mental category as those flashing graphics that some websites shove in your face to try to MAKE you notice them. If there is a header graphic outside of a cut, or a graphic is used as the link to a story, I won't check out the story.

Though, if someone has a graphic that they put behind a cut, offering a cut for those who want to look at the graphic, and one for those who want to skip the graphic and go right to the story, it doesn't bother me. In a lot of cases, I'll actually look at those graphics on purpose. Or if they post a text link to the story and there happens to be a header graphic, that also doesn't bother me.

I guess it's just the advertise-y graphics that aggravate me...

I haven't adblocked icons, but I've set my current layout to not show icons on my flist. There are some that a few flisters use that bother me, and I'd prefer not to see them when I'm scrolling through. I feel a little bad for that, and also a little weird (in the 'I am embarrassingly overemotional' way) but, you know. I depend on my flist to be a safe space.

Yeah, me too. I like them on the lj itself on something like the masterpost. That can be interesting, but a banner with every update is really annoying, especially when it's inconsiderately huge.

Oh whatever, nothing to feel bad about. Your lj, your rules :)

Oh my god, that WWII show post is brilliant. But the sheer number of commenters that just. don't. get. it. makes me want to weep for the future.

It really, really is. And agreed on the weeping for the future too :/

The only really horrible fic header graphics I've seen have been linked to really horrible fics, so yes.

And I didn't even know you could adblock user icons!

Haha, yeah, pretty much the case for me too.

Apparently you can, although I've never tried it myself, but I know friends who have. There are a couple that I've been debating blocking myself because they're just too freaky D:

I started Rizzoli & Isles! I didn't have time to finish watching the ep today, but really, all I was hoping for was that it didn't totally suck balls, and so far it hasn't. Since Numb3rs was canceled and Criminal Minds got fucked over, the number of awesome law enforcement ladies in the shows I watch has dropped by like 75%, so I'm hoping R&I gets a good season :(

Ahahaha, I never click on fics with headers, because half the time they're part 378/? and the header is posted outside the cut with EVERY SINGLE UPDATE on fifteen different comms and I just don't read fic by assholes like that-- but I always sort of wonder, what do you do when you write a fic and someone makes you a really terrible but really earnest banner as a gift? Do you feel obligated to post it somewhere, or point people towards it, or what?

I watched the episode and it wasn't mindblowing, but it wasn't bad either. And I liked the chemistry between the two leads, so, tentative thumbs up for possible future viewing.

Hahaha, I feel your frustration. I think you would feel obligated to point to it somehow, but banners with fic are a personal posting preference thing, so it would be easy enough not to have to include it in every update. The nice thing would be to link from the masterpost because, well, even if the author didn't love it, if it's made with sincerity, I feel sentiment trumps aesthetics :)

I watched Rizzoli & Isles and it seems promising. Of course one lady is a tomboy (she plays BASKETBALL) and the other lady is fancy (FANCY CLOTHES), but they have good chemistry. Jane broke her nose playing basketball and Isles set it for her at a crime scene. The writing isn't completely tedious, either! There were some funny parts! I'm hopeful.

Hahaha, yeah, the types were very clearly underlined, but I liked their dialog/banter and even though the plot itself really didn't blow me away, as you said, they did have good chemistry. So, thumbs up for possible improvement and potentially lots of viewers :)

If the graphic was made by the author of the fic and it is bad, it might be a point against the fic. Not including the size of the image pretty much guarantees that my browser (Opera, cached-images-only by default) won't see the link and I won't bother chasing it down.

If the graphic was made by someone else, it depends on the factors that generally decide if I click on a fic or not.

If I read or look at fanart at work depends entirely on available time (of course) and on the absence of certain words which are blocked by our web content filter. If an R rated fic doesn't mention 'sex' or 'porn' literally then it's OK. :)
